Destination Fujairah

The Emirate of Fujairah, one of the seven Emirates making up the Federation of the United Arab Emirates, lies on the south-eastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, facing the Gulf of Oman.

Wadi Ham

Most visitors to Fujairah turn right, not left, at Masafi and sweep south-eastwards along Wadi Ham, one of the great valleys that cut through the mountains.

Standing on an outcrop across Wadi Ham is a stern and forbidding fortress that once stood watch over traffic up and down the wadi. Below the fortress, luxuriant palm groves are irrigated by aflaj, little canals built to channel the water along the edge of the wadi, while in the wadi bed itself traces of water can usually be found even in the heat of summer.

Tourism in Fujairah

Fujairah has long been a favoured destination for a day out or a holiday weekend by residents of the other emirates, both Nationals and expatriates alike. Now, as the local tourist industry gets under way, visitors from overseas are also discovering its charms.
